Rudall Carte flute, serial number 6839. Made in 1926 for Edith Penville, a terrific virtuoso who was a popular soloist and recording artist. Cocuswood, silver keys, Rockstro model, open G#. Modern pitch. Made by Schumacher, one of the best Rudall Carte workmen. Please note that this flute has an open G#.
This fantastic instrument was almost certainly used by Edith Penville on her recordings, including the one of Andersen's Fantaisie caracteristique, dating from the late 1920s.. This is some of the best flute playing you could ever hope to hear.
